Google launched an MCP server for its Google Home ecosystem on Wednesday.
This update lets any MCP-supporting agent work with smart home devices. Supported agents include Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT, and Google Antigravity. Users can review camera summaries and monitor activity through natural language commands. They can also control connected devices and build custom dashboards.
Setup requires creating a Google Cloud project configured for Home MCP. The agent must ask users to sign in and grant permissions. A setup guide is available in the Google Home Developer Center.
The system supports all Google Home ecosystem devices. This includes Nest doorbells, thermostats, and Matter-compatible light bulbs. Google previously used MCP for Cloud, data platforms, and Workspace tools.
Access starts today for U.S. subscribers of Google Home Premium Advanced. This tier costs $20 per month in the United States. It offers longer video history, descriptive notifications, and detailed alerts. Google is not commenting on broader rollout plans or other markets.
The company seeks feedback from early adopters via its Smart Home for Developers Community. An earlier report incorrectly stated the rollout started on Tuesday. The correct start date is today, Wednesday.
