Ollama now offers support for Claude Desktop, providing a new configuration option for developers. This integration allows users to leverage Claude’s capabilities within the Ollama ecosystem. Users can utilize cloud models for tasks such as coding and research, which may require significant computational resources. Alternatively, open models can be run directly on a user’s computer.
The integration simplifies model switching. Users can easily toggle between Claude and other models within Ollama. Turning Claude off in Ollama restores the previous setup. The configuration process is automated; Ollama automatically sets up the third-party gateway when Claude Desktop is enabled. Users can then choose any model within Ollama, regardless of whether it is local or hosted on Ollama’s cloud.
Data privacy is a key consideration. Telemetry is disabled by default, and Ollama maintains a strict Zero Data Retention policy across all models and services, whether accessed through the cloud or locally. Users can switch between Anthropic models and Ollama models via a toggle within the Ollama interface.
To utilize local models with this integration, users can configure a local model through the Settings page. This allows for a flexible workflow, combining the power of Claude with the control of locally hosted models. The integration provides a streamlined method for managing and deploying large language models within a production environment.
