What to Evaluate
Repository structure
- Is folder layout intuitive and consistent with framework conventions?
- Are responsibilities clearly separated (
src/app,src/components,src/data,public)? - Are there misplaced files that should move to feature or domain folders?
- Do
services/directories each have a clear, single responsibility? - Is cross-service coupling explicit (Eden client types) rather than implicit (shared mutable state)?
Dependency direction
- Prefer one-way flow from app/page composition into components and data
- Flag cyclical imports or hidden cross-layer dependencies
- Identify shared utilities that should be extracted to avoid duplication
Rendering boundaries
- Confirm client-only behavior stays in client components
- Keep interactive boundaries as low as possible in the tree
- Call out architecture risks that increase bundle size unnecessarily
Data and content ownership
- Verify content lives in
src/data/rather than scattered JSX literals - Ensure updates are low-friction (single-source data edits where possible)
- Suggest schema consistency for project/experience/about records
Documentation quality
- If structure is unclear, run
/arch-diagramfirst to map folders, composition flow, and data flow - Recommend concise documentation updates that reduce onboarding time
Architecture best practices
Boundaries and layering
- Keep clear layering: app composition (
src/app) → UI components (src/components) → content/config (src/data) - Avoid cross-layer leaks (for example, data modules importing UI components)
- Prefer explicit boundaries over convenience imports
- Backend services (
services/) must not import fromsrc/— the dependency flows one way: frontend calls services, not the reverse - Inter-service calls use Eden client types only — never share a runtime import across service boundaries
Dependency hygiene
- Maintain one-way dependency direction where possible
- Remove dead modules and stale abstractions that no longer provide value
- Flag coupling hotspots where one module change cascades widely
Change safety and migration
- Propose incremental refactors over big-bang rewrites
- Preserve public contracts during migration (routes, component props, data shapes)
- For risky restructures, provide rollback checkpoints and verification steps
Naming and discoverability
- Prefer names that encode responsibility (
*-data.ts,*-section.tsx,*-service.ts) - Keep folder intent obvious to a new contributor in under 60 seconds
- Recommend colocating closely related files when it improves navigation
Performance-aware architecture
- Keep client boundaries as low as possible to avoid unnecessary JavaScript
- Highlight architectural choices that increase bundle or hydration cost
- Prefer static/data-driven composition where runtime state is unnecessary
