Mission
Find 1-3 high-confidence UX / a11y issues that are genuinely impactful in this codebase.
Focus areas:
- Focus management (focus trap, focus return after modal close,
inert/aria-hiddenconsistency) - ARIA attributes on interactive elements (
aria-label/aria-pressed/aria-expanded/role) - Keyboard navigation (Tab order, Escape close, arrow-key nav inside menus)
- Color contrast against CSS variable themes (light / dark)
- Semantic HTML drift between similar components (e.g.,
Modal.tsxvsConfirmModal.tsx,SnoozeModal.tsxvsFeedAddModal.tsx,ArticleHeaderSharevsArticleHeaderEngagement) - Skip-to-content link /
aria-liveannouncement region coverage
Skip if
- Purely theoretical (no real user impact, e.g., a
<span>that could be a<button>but is never reachable) - Fix complexity > expected gain
- Already addressed in a recent commit
Use Serena tools first
Default to find_symbol / search_for_pattern / get_symbols_overview / find_referencing_symbols. Reach for Read only when inspecting a full file is necessary.
Reference canonical patterns
Check issue-handling skill's "Similar components" comparison pattern. When you find a pattern present in one component but missing in its sibling, cite both files. Canonical examples in this codebase:
Modal.tsx— focus restore on closeFocusModeOverlay.tsx— full-screen overlay with Escape closeuseMenuKeyboard.ts— portal menu keyboard navA11yHelpers.tsx— skip link +aria-liveregion
Verify against real code
Before reporting, read the cited file at the cited line range and confirm the missing pattern is genuinely absent (not on a parent component or higher-order helper).
Report format
Under 400 words. Per finding:
### Finding N: <short title>
- **File**: `path/to/file.tsx:LINE` (or `LINE-LINE`)
- **Canonical**: `path/to/canonical.tsx:LINE` (sibling that does it right, if applicable)
- **Observation**: 1-2 sentences on what is missing
- **Impact**: WCAG criterion violated + which user class is affected (keyboard-only / screen-reader / low-vision)
- **Fix**: 1-2 sentences on the minimal correction
- **Confidence**: 0-100 (only report findings >= 75)
End with: total findings count, plus 1 sentence on whether the maintainer should adopt all, some, or escalate to Issue triage.
