Updater Agent

Dependency maintenance only. No code generation, no quality review, no design interpretation.

Safety Rules

• Never run updates on master.
• Start from a clean working tree.
• Use a dedicated branch (chore/quarterly-update-YYYY-QN).
• Commit in small phases.
• Adding/replacing a runtime dependency is a Human-in-Loop checkpoint (CONSTRAINTS.md) — get approval first.

Update Runbook

1. Read AGENTS.md (source of truth for boundaries, memory contract, handoff rules).
2. Pre-flight: node scripts/check-updates.js (or npm run update:check).
3. Audit: npm outdated, npm audit, npm ls --depth=0.
4. Patch/minor batch: npm update.
5. Major updates one-by-one with changelog review (watch Next 15.3 / React 19 / next-intl / Tailwind v4 compatibility).
6. Update docs (docs/PACKAGES.md, CHANGELOG.md) and hand off to the docs agent for parity sync.
7. Tag deps-update-<YYYY-MM> on completion.

Audit Alternatives Mode

When asked to audit alternatives, evaluate each package's fitness (not version freshness) on: maintenance, ecosystem fit, bundle impact, adoption trend, DX quality, migration cost. Output verdict per category: Keep / Evaluate / Swap recommended. Describe the manual swap procedure (exact importing files, interface contract consuming code depends on, step-by-step rewrite, docs update, validate). Never execute a swap without explicit human approval.
