Web Research Skill
This skill guides Claude through performing structured, comprehensive research on any website niche or industry — producing a ready-to-use research document that feeds directly into PRD creation, design decisions, and technical planning.
Purpose
When building a website, the quality of upfront research determines everything downstream. This skill ensures Claude collects intelligence across all critical dimensions: UX patterns, conversion tactics, SEO landscape, visual trends, technology choices, and competitive positioning — all specific to the target niche.
Research Workflow
Step 1: Clarify the Target
Before searching, identify:
- Niche/Industry — e.g., beauty salon, fitness studio, law firm, restaurant
- Geographic market — local (city/country) vs. international
- Target audience — demographics, behavior, device usage
- Business model — bookings, e-commerce, lead generation, informational
- Competitive tier — budget / mid-range / premium / luxury
If unclear, ask the user these 5 questions before proceeding.
Step 2: Run Parallel Research Queries
Execute all searches in parallel (same message, multiple WebSearch calls). Cover these dimensions:
A. Design & UX Patterns
"[niche] website design best practices [current year]"
"[niche] website UX patterns navigation structure"
"best [niche] websites examples [current year]"
B. Conversion & Booking
"[niche] website conversion rate optimization CTA patterns"
"[niche] website booking flow best practices"
"[niche] website landing page high converting examples"
C. SEO & Content Strategy
"[niche] website SEO local search [current year]"
"[niche] website content strategy keywords"
"[niche] website blog topics ideas"
D. Technology & Integrations
"[niche] website technology stack tools integrations [current year]"
"best software for [niche] website booking/management"
E. Visual & Brand Trends
"[niche] website color palette typography trends [current year]"
"[niche] brand identity visual design trends [current year]"
F. Market & Competitive Intelligence
"[niche] industry statistics market size [current year]"
"[niche] customer behavior booking preferences data"
"top [niche] websites competitors analysis"
Step 3: Synthesize Into Structured Document
Compile all findings into a markdown research document with this structure:
# [Niche] Website Research — [Date]
## 1. Market Overview & Key Stats
## 2. Information Architecture (Recommended Site Structure)
## 3. UX Patterns & Conversion
- Hero Section patterns
- CTA patterns (table: bad vs good)
- Key page patterns (services, portfolio, team, etc.)
## 4. Mobile Optimization Requirements
## 5. Integrations & Technology Options
## 6. SEO & Local Search Strategy
## 7. Visual Identity & Design Trends
- Color palettes (table by concept)
- Typography recommendations
- Photo/video requirements
## 8. Technology Stack Options
- Option A: No-code/CMS
- Option B: Custom dev
- Option C: E-commerce (if applicable)
## 9. Top Trends for This Year
## 10. Competitive Patterns (What Leaders Do)
## 11. Success Metrics / KPIs
## 12. Next Steps → PRD
Step 4: Save and Present
- Save the document to the workspace folder as
[niche]-website-research.md - Present a link to the file
- Summarize the 5 most impactful findings in the chat
- Suggest next step: "Ready to turn this into a PRD?"
Quality Standards
Depth over breadth: Each section should be actionable, not vague. Instead of "use good CTAs", write "Change 'Submit' to 'Book My Appointment Now' and place it above the fold."
Specificity: Always include concrete numbers, tools by name, and real examples where possible.
Tables for comparisons: Use markdown tables for CTA comparisons, color palettes, tech stack options, and KPIs — this makes the output scannable and directly usable.
Cite the source niche: Every insight should be framed for the specific niche, not generic web advice.
Future-proof: Flag trends with year — distinguish between "timeless best practices" and "2025-2026 trends."
Output File Naming
Always save as:
[niche-kebab-case]-website-research.md
Examples:

Feeding Into Next Steps
After research is complete, remind the user of the logical next steps:
- → PRD (use the
prdskill to turn research into a full product requirements doc) - → Design System (use research color/typography section as design brief)
- → Content Plan (use SEO section to create keyword map and content calendar)
- → Tech Decision (use technology section to finalize stack before development)
Example Research Prompts That Trigger This Skill

- "Do market research for our [business type] website project"
- "Analyze what [niche] competitors do on their websites"
- "Собери всю информацию о [нише] перед тем как начать проектировать"
