ClickUp Multi-Environment Setup
Overview
Configure separate ClickUp workspaces and API tokens for development, staging, and production. ClickUp does not have sandbox environments, so the recommended approach is separate workspaces with separate tokens per environment.
Environment Strategy

Key point: All ClickUp API calls go to https://api.clickup.com/api/v2/ regardless of environment. Environment isolation comes from using different tokens that are authorized for different workspaces.

Prerequisites
- Separate development, staging, and production workspace/list boundaries
- Distinct scoped identities and secret references per environment
- Configuration schema, deployment promotion gate, and tested rollback process
Instructions
Validate environment identity at startup, bind every token and target ID to its declared environment, and reject cross-environment data or destructive actions without the production guard and approval. Promote tested configuration rather than copying secret files; rotate/review any credential that crosses an environment boundary.
Output
Create an environment configuration receipt with target workspace/list IDs, secret references, validation results, guards, promotion decision, owner, and rollback evidence. Do not expose actual tokens, task data, or private workspace details in environment files or diagnostic output.
Examples
Deploy a staging configuration with a distinct team/list and token, verify that the startup check rejects the production ID, and run only synthetic operations. If a production token appears in a non-production environment, stop deployment, revoke or rotate it as needed, and repair the configuration before promotion.
