This file gives future agents and assistants the working principles for this repository.

General And Genera Principles

• Treat this repository as a living grower's notebook. Preserve practical observations even when the structure is still rough.
• Prefer measured data over impressions. Record numbers for light, humidity, temperature, photoperiod, dates, locations, and setup changes whenever they are available.
• Separate observation from interpretation. Write down what happened first, then mark theories, diagnoses, and recommendations as hypotheses.
• Do not rewrite history to make old notes look cleaner. Append corrections, updates, and outcomes so the record remains useful.
• Use consistent units: PPFD in umol/m^2/s, DLI in mol/m^2/day, humidity as % RH, temperature in F and/or C, and dates as YYYY-MM-DD.
• Record plant names as precisely as possible, including genus, species, hybrid, cultivar, clone, source, and accession or acquisition date when known.
• Keep genus-level advice humble. Genus notes are starting points, not final truth. Individual plant response and measured conditions matter more than generic care sheets.
• Avoid drastic recommendations from a single reading. Look for trends, day/night swings, recent changes, and plant behavior before suggesting major moves.
• For any chemical, pesticide, fertilizer, or risky intervention, preserve the exact product, concentration, date, target plant, and observed outcome.
• Prefer simple Markdown and plain text data until a more formal schema becomes obviously useful.

Data Capture Expectations

When adding a diary entry, measurement, or plant note, try to include:

• date and approximate time
• plant or group observed
• setup or location
• action taken, if any
• temperature
• relative humidity
• PPFD at leaf height
• photoperiod
• visible plant response
• uncertainty or follow-up question

For light entries, record whether the value is a spot reading, an estimate, an average, or a target range. If calculating DLI, include the photoperiod used.

Current Working Plant Principles

• Lowland Nepenthes, including N. ampullaria, should be diagnosed with plant-level humidity, temperature, light, and photoperiod readings. Pitcher failure should be treated as an environmental troubleshooting problem before assuming the plant itself is defective.
• Forest-floor Drosera such as D. schizandra and D. 'Andromeda' should be kept in lower light, high humidity, and moderate temperatures. The current baseline of about 66 PPFD and 80% RH is a reasonable starting point.
• High-light sundews, including woolly sundews and likely the forked sundew, should not define the light target for shaded rainforest species. Keep those calibration points distinct.

Agent Workflow

• Read existing notes before adding new structure.
• Keep changes small and legible.
• Add new folders only when there is actual content to place in them.
• Preserve raw measurements even if later interpretation changes.
• When summarizing care guidance, cite sources when available and distinguish outside references from this collection's observed results.
• Use the GitHub wiki for living narrative pages and the repository for durable records, data files, inventories, and agent instructions.
